Institutional Role and Vision
The Vietnam Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (VFSA), under the National Institute for Food Control (NIFC), was established pursuant to Decision No. 1936/QD-BYT, issued by the Minister of Health. VFSA envisions becoming:
- A leading institution in food safety risk assessment in Vietnam;
- A regionally and globally recognized center for scientific excellence, innovation, and leadership in risk assessment;
- An active contributor to international food safety networks and global health protection efforts.
Mission and National Commitment
VFSA is dedicated to:
- Enhancing food safety management in Vietnam through science-based risk assessment and evidence-driven policy recommendations;
- Identifying and assessing food-related risks to safeguard public health;
- Aligning with international standards, while ensuring that food in Vietnam is safe, reliable, and resilient for all citizens.
Strategic Priorities (2025–2030)
To realize its vision, VFSA will prioritize:
- Strengthening institutional structure and organizational capacity;
- Enhancing the quality and expertise of human resources through professional development and training;
- Investing in modern infrastructure to support comprehensive risk assessment and monitoring systems;
- Advancing scientific research and evidence synthesis for food safety policymaking and communication.
Core Functions and Responsibilities
- Identify and assess health risks posed by chemical, biological, and other agents in food and related products.
- Provide advisory support for risk management and risk communication regarding food safety.
- Participate in the development of standards and technical regulations.
- Establish a network for collecting and synthesizing information and data.
- Conducting training and fostering domestic and international collaboration on food safety risk assessment in accordance with legal provisions.
