VFSA’s consultancy approach integrates science-based food safety risk assessment with toxicological testing to provide evidence-driven guidance for regulatory decision-making, product development, and risk management. These services are designed to identify and evaluate foodborne hazards, assess consumer exposure, and determine potential health risks associated with chemical and biological agents in food and related products.

In addition to its advisory role, VFSA conducts toxicological evaluations of food additives, contaminants, and other substances to inform acceptable intake levels and mechanisms of toxicity. The centre also supports the development of food safety standards, regulations, and risk communication strategies in line with national priorities and international best practices.
